hey! welcome to my living blog post about dragon age: the veilguard.
i'll be updating this page with entries of my thoughts, reactions and screenshots during my first and current playthrough as beryl "rook" mercar, a non-binary (they/them) dwarf rogue.
needless to say this blog post will be filled with spoilers as this game only just came out this month of november 2024, so consider this your warning!
the blog entries will be in chronological order: oldest at the top and newest at the bottom.
if you're interested in my inquisition blog post, you can check it out here!

i started veilguard!! i'm really enjoying it so far 🥺

met lucanis (and spite) tonight, i get the hype already 😂
he seems very similar to zevran/fenris, very suave, brooding, dangerous, but can be funny/charming as well
i chose the dialogue option to flirt and say "i don't feel comfortable leaving you alone with a demon" in the first scene in the lighthouse after you recruit him 👀
spite is also really funny, i love how he was so childishly demanding to speak to rook directly, and when lucanis said no spite punched him?? hahah
i'm not planning who i'm romancing as beryl, i'm basically just doing my classic self-insert first playthrough so i'm just choosing dialogue options that i want to, in inquisition my character herah adaar who i played this way ended up romancing josephine, so i basically just talked to all of my companions and exhausted all dialogue then depending on what felt right for my playthrough i chose to romance a companion naturally.
with my most recent playthrough as dracona lavellan, my inquisitor for this playthrough of veilguard, i specifically designed her (9 years ago!) to be my lavellan that would romance solas (i have another oc, lyliane lavellan, who romanced cullen instead) and i originally gave her a backstory that she had escaped from tevinter and ended up with the lavellan clan in the free marches, hence the tevinter name "dracona", and her affinity for fire magic and sylaise vallaslin (that she let solas remove). obviously in inquisition you can't customize your backstory that much, but it's really cool that i get to see her in the story here eventually... i'm not there just yet! i'm anxiously waiting to see her 🥺
impromptu mini review of veilguard (26 nov 2024)
i'm really enjoying veilguard so far in terms of the story, lore, exploration, etc. i do really enjoy the combat, and i'm playing a rogue so i'm just dancing across the battlefield spamming dodge and sniping enemies with my bow while my companions deal with stuff up close 😅
my computer is about 5 years old, maybe even older, so i'm running the game on medium graphics which still look really nice but it's a lil bit crunchy and the offset camera is taking some getting used to.
there's also so much detail in everything that sometimes my eyes can't figure out what to focus on, and i keep getting lost running around the closed in areas lol, but i don't mind that it's not the open world design i'm used to in inquisition.
i actually do like that so far it's been linear level design and missions and i'm guessing later on i can return to places and explore and complete side quests since i must've just unlocked that now that i'm 8 hours in and completed the first minrathous and antiva missions.
i also love the companion interactions as well, and i also found out by checking out the meditation room in the lighthouse that you can actually be non-binary and/or trans in the game!
beryl is like me, afab non-binary, but different as they actually have had top surgery. i haven't seen them naked or shirtless in game so far (lol) but i love that i was able to give them top surgery scars, a chubby body that was more androgynous than feminine or masculine, and they/them pronouns of course 👼
and being able to customise their background in the meditation room by choosing dialogue options when interacting with the objects actually made me start crying the first time i actually played through it, and the second time i watched back my recording of that moment 🥺
it means a lot to be able to have the customisation options for the character physically and socially to be able to play a trans/non-binary person in the dragon age world 💕
